ICC Update: BCCI Secretary Jai Shah became the head of the Finance Affairs Committee, read for more...
ICC: The names of the new office bearers of the ICC have been announced. New Zealand's Greg Barclay was re-elected as the ICC chairman on Saturday. Berkeley has been unanimously given a second term. Barclay's tenure will be two years. Barkley was elected unopposed after Zimbabwe's Tawengwa Mukuhalani withdrew. Greg Barclay was made the ICC chairman in November 2020. He was previously the chairman of New Zealand Cricket and the director of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in 2015. He was elected unopposed, which means he also had the support of the BCCI in the 17-member board.
Jai Shah got important responsibility
At the same board meeting, BCCI secretary Jay Shah was elected as the head of the ICC's Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee. Let us tell you that Jay Shah has been entrusted with the responsibility of chairing the most important committee of the ICC. Apart from the ICC chairman, it is an equally powerful sub-committee. The finance and commercial affairs committee is always headed by an ICC board member and Shah's selection makes it clear that he will represent the BCCI on the ICC board. According to PTI, each member accepted Jay Shah as the head of the Committee on Finance and Commercial Affairs.
What does this committee do?
This committee takes all major financial policy decisions, which are approved by the ICC Board. The work of this committee includes revenue sharing among the member countries. In the era of N Srinivasan, the post of head of this committee used to be with India, but later the power of BCCI was reduced. Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, however, was a member of the committee till last year. “India is the commercial hub of global cricket and more than 70 percent of sponsorships come from this region,” an ICC source said. Therefore, the Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee of the ICC must always be chaired by the BCCI.
